Betty L. Smoot, age 83, of Marion, IL, passed away at 10:45 a.m., Saturday, September 19, 2009, at home.
She was born, October 10, 1925, in Marion, IL, the daughter of Roy William and Della Ann (Springs) Tanner.
Betty was united in marriage to Paul E. Smoot, June 21, 1942, in Jackson, MO and together they shared over thirty-four years of marriage until his death, April 14, 1977.
She will best be remembered as a hard working member of the Williamson County Fair Board. In the mid seventies she was the chief dietician for the North Aurora Manor in North Aurora, IL. She was of the protestant faith and for many years attended the First Baptist Church of Marion.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Marsha Ann and Jerry Deuchler of Marion; her son and daughter-in-law, Donald Paul and Wilma Smoot of Marion; four grandchildren, Donnie Smoot and wife Charlotte, Melissa Smoot, Marilyn Hoffard and husband, Jeff and Dale Deuchler; four great-grandchildren; other extended family members and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Smoot; her parents and one brother, William Tanner.
Arrangements for Betty L. Smoot were entrusted to the Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court St. in Marion, IL.
Graveside service for Betty L. Smoot was at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009 in Indian Camp Cemetery south of Dykersburg, IL, with Rev. David A. Nolen presiding. Interment followed next to her husband.
