Nadine Stone, age 87, of Marion, IL passed away at 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, November 26, 2009, with her family by her side.
She was born in Marion, IL on October 16, 1922, the daughter of John and Sophia Irene (Hastings) Shanks.
Nadine was first united in marriage to George Roberts. She later was united in marriage to Eugene R. “Rass” Stone on August 7, 1950, in Buncombe, IL. Together they shared over forty-four years of marriage until his death came on October 9, 1994.
Her working career was as an operator with the General Telephone Company in Marion.
Nadine was a member of Grange Hall Freewill Baptist Church located south of Marion. In her spare time some of her other interests included reading, working crossword puzzles, going to flea markets, antiquing, sewing and embroidering, gardening and canning for her family. Though she was always busy the most important part of life was her family. She was interested in their activities, mentoring them when needed and raised three generations of her family. She will be remembered for her compassion shown and always putting others first.
She is survived by her daughter, Debbie Ann Stone of Marion, IL; two sons and one daughter-in-law, John and Judy Stone of Creal Springs, IL and Dixon “Dick” Roberts of Marion, IL; two grandsons, Ray Stone and Paul Stone both of Marion, IL; two granddaughters, Jeri Lynn Carter and her husband, Brian, of Marion, IL and Dawn Wright of Herrin, IL; two great grandsons, Dustin Roberts and Braden Winchester both of Herrin, IL, other extended family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene R. “Rass” Stone and sister, Ruth Shadowens.
Arrangements for Nadine Stone were entrusted to the Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court Street, of Marion, IL.
A time of visitation for family and friends was from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 28th, at the funeral home.
During the time of visitation a “Reflection of Life” DVD Memorial Tribute featuring special people, places and events of Nadine’s life was presented to the family and friends.
The funeral service was at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, November 29, 2009, at Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home with Bob Shadowens presiding.
Comments of memory were presented by Nadine’s son, John; daughter, Debbie and great grandson, Dustin Roberts.
The prelude and postlude musical selections were recorded selections.
Special recorded vocal musical selections presented were “The Rose” by Bette Midler, “Precious Memories” by Barbara Mandrell, “Mama’s Arms” by Joshua Kadison and "Wind Beneath My Wings" by Bette Midler.
Interment followed next to her husband, “Rass” in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion, IL.
Pallbearers were Jim Ragain, Randy Grider, David Shadowens, Toby Shadowens, Dustin Roberts, Randy Emery and Jim Clark.
After the committal service at the cemetery the family and friends gathered at Cracker Barrel for a meal and continued time of fellowship.
