Avolene Vaughn, age 84, of rural Creal Springs, IL, passed away at 2:25 p.m., Friday, December 25, 2009, in Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion, IL.
She was born, February 16, 1925, in Tunnel Hill Township near Tunnel Hill, IL in Johnson County, the daughter of Dan and Ida (Boner) Simmons.
Avolene was united in marriage to Loren L. Vaughn, November 15, 1942, in Charleston, MO, together sharing over sixty-three years of marriage until his death April 5, 2006.
Avolene was a member of Northern Baptist Church of Creal Springs, IL.
Her working career was with Smoller Brothers of Herrin, IL as a seamstress for many years until her retirement in 1987.
When she was not at work; she and her husband, Loren, raised cattle and farmed for over fifty years on the farm where they raised their family. In her spare time she enjoyed feeding and watching the birds on the farm, working with her flowers and gardening, especially raising tomatoes. Though she kept busy, her family was the most important part of her life, always seeing to their needs and taking interest in all their activities. Now those left behind will cherish the many memories that were created.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Linda Vaughn of Creal Springs, IL; two daughters and one son-in-law, Sharon Vaughn of Marion, IL and Pat and Charles McCabe of Vernon, IL; two granddaughters, Christina McCabe of Harrisburg, IL and Amanda Harris and her husband, Carl of Herrin, IL; sister, Bertha Hundley of Mesquite, TX; brother-in-law, Vernon Vaughn of Marion, IL, other extended family members and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers, Daniel Ward Simmons and Kenneth Simmons who died as an infant.
Arrangements for Avolene Vaughn were entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court St., Marion, IL.
The time of visitation was on Monday, December 28th, between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
During the time of the visitation a “Reflection of Life” DVD Memorial Tribute featuring special people, places and events of Avolene’s life was presented to the family and friends.
The funeral service was Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at 1:00 p.m., in the Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home in Marion, with Rev. Alan Summers presiding.
The prelude and postlude musical selections were recorded piano selections.
Special recorded musical selections presented during the service were “I’ll Meet You In the Morning” by the Gaither’s, “How Beautiful Heaven Must Be” by The Christian Choristers and “Go Rest High On That Mountain” by Vince Gill.
Interment followed next to her husband in New Salem Cemetery, in Johnson County, south of Creal Springs, IL.
Pallbearers were Larry Vaughn, Daryl Shearer, Gale Simmons, Roger Wilburn, Dale Chamness and Charles Beasley.
Following the committal service the family and friends gathered at the First Baptist Church of Creal Springs for a meal and continued time of fellowship and support.
