Wanda Louise Greer, age 88, of Marion, IL, formerly of Norris City, IL, passed away at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2010, at the home of her daughter in Marion, IL.
She was born on July 2, 1921, in Gallatin County, IL the daughter of Earl Ezekial and Eva Mae (Childers) Jones.
Wanda was united in marriage to Arthur Wayne Greer on November 13, 1943, at Jackson, MO, and together they shared nearly fifty four years of marriage until his death came on September 8, 1997.
Early in her lifetime she worked during WW II at an ammunitions plant located at Evansville, IN. She has worked at many other jobs during her lifetime including being a butcher for the IGA Food Store and manager of a convenience store both in Norris City. In the early 1980’s, her and her husband moved to Florida, and she worked as a director of a Day Care Center until they returned back to Norris City in the early 1990’s and later moved to the Marion area.
She is a member of the All Nations Church, located north of Marion.
Wanda will be remembered for her strong Christian faith, always reading God’s word daily. She loved all her family, enjoying the many times they would all gather together and always was interested in all their activities. Now those who are left behind will cherish the many memories that have been created.
She is survived by her daughter, Gayle England of Marion, IL; granddaughter, Shawna Michelle Spiller of Herrin, IL; grandson, Seth Greer George of Herrin, IL; great granddaughter, Lyla Catherine George of Herrin, IL; two great grandsons, Caleb Andrew George and Liam Alexander George both of Herrin, IL; three sisters, Thedola “Teddy” Lacefield of St. Louis, MO, Opal Hackerson of Evansville, IN and Marveunene “Marv” Boster of Holbrook, PA;
two close sisters-in-law, Novella Jones of Carmi, IL and Joyce Jones of McLeansboro, IL; close friend, Naomi Turner of Marion, IL, a host of nieces and nephews, the employees and clients of Addus Adult Center of Marion, IL and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; two sisters, Freta Hullett and Novella Healy and two brothers, Louis and Ivan Jones.
Arrangements for Wanda L. Greer were entrusted to the Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court Street, of Marion, IL.
A time of visitation for family and friends was on Thursday, February 11th from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
During the time of visitation a “Reflection of Life” Memorial DVD Tribute featuring special people, places and events of Wanda’s life was presented to the family and friends.
Following the time of visitation the funeral service was at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 11, 2010, at Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home with Rev. Tim Ozment presiding.
Comments of memory were presented by Wanda’s granddaughter, Shawna Michelle Spiller.
The prelude and postlude musical selections were recorded piano selections.
Special vocal musical selections presented were “Amazing Grace”, “Your Love, O Lord”, “God of Wonders” and “I Can Only Imagine” all by John Wheaton who accompanied himself on the guitar.
Interment followed next to her husband in Powell Cemetery near Norris City, IL.
Pallbearers were Matthew Spencer, Wes Stafko, John Wheaton, Deon Jones, Seth George and Vince Lacefield.
For those who preferred memorial contributions were made to “The Alzheimer’s Association” and mailed in care of, Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, P.O. Box 370, Marion, IL 62959. Memorial contribution envelopes were available at the funeral home.
