Judith L. (Stenz) Murphy was called home to be with the Lord at 12:17 pm on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at the home of Ken Frassato, a longtime friend, in Marion, IL.
She was born Wednesday,July 4, 1934, in Fond du Lac, WS the daughter of Alice Lurvey and Elmer Stenz.
Judy graduated from Lowell P. Goodrich High School in 1950.
She was united in marriage to Robert Dennis Houchins-Murphy, who preceded her in death on October 2, 2005.
The wife of a career military man, they lived in many locations all over the world. They had one son, Mark Patrick Murphy who preceded her in death at age thirty, June 30, 1989.
Judy was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Marion, IL. She was a committed member of the Bereans Adult Sunday School, volunteered with CASA, The Cancer Society and Lifetime Survivors. Along with her husband, they were active in collecting Bibles and other Christian material for TORM Ministries.
Judy is survived by her husband’s cousin, Roger Schwartz of Kokomo, IN and his wife, Teresa, and their daughters, Holly and Sarah Schwartz and Dawn Lock and her husband Tim; and their granddaughters, Abby and Emily Russell and Olivia Lock all of Kokomo, IN; sisters-in-law, Denise Lemke, Rialto, CA; Cathy Matthews, Colorado Springs, CO; Becky Zachgo, Mt. Juliet, TN; nephews, Steve Lemke, Rialto, CA; Tom Murphy, New Burnside, IL; Steve and Bruce Ecker, Fond du Lac, WS; nieces, Susan Lont, Fond du Lac, WS; Sandy McCormick, Mt. Juliet, TN; exceptional friends, Luther and Anna Weathers, Nashville, TN; Julie Steele, Nashville, TN and Mary Libby, Dearborn, MI; special caretakers, Sharon and Ken McGuire, Jodi Hawkins and Kathy DeYoung all of Marion, IL.
Besides her husband and son, those that preceded her in death were her parents, Alice Lurvey and Elmer Stenz; mother-in-law, Fay Schwarzentruber-Murphy; step mother-in-law, Mary Lou Houchins and a sister, Jane Stenz-Ecker.
A memorial celebration service was at Aldersgate United Methodist Church Marion, IL on Saturday, February 27, 2010, at 2:00 p.m.
Private interment was in the Nashville National Cemetery in Nashville, TN at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations were made to “Aldersgate United Methodist Church” or “Hospice of Southern Illinois”.
The Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court St., Marion, IL provided service to the family.
