Mildred Rendleman, age 88, of the Pittsburg-Paulton, IL area, passed away at 9:25 a.m. on Wednesday, February 24, 2010, surrounded by her family at her home.
She was born May 11, 1921, in rural Hardin County, IL near Cave-In-Rock the daughter of Willis Riley and Mamie (Hufsey) Crow.
Mildred was united in marriage to Willie R. “Bill” Rendleman on June 13, 1939, in Harrisburg, IL and together they shared over fifty six years of marriage until his death came on November 23, 1995.
During WW II she was a “Rosie the Riveter” working on B-18 and B-24 Bomber Planes. For the majority of her lifetime she was a homemaker seeing to the needs of her family and home and this was something she enjoyed. For a short time, about ten years during the 70’s, she worked at Marion Memorial Hospital in the Dietary Department.
She was an active member of Crab Orchard Methodist Church of Crab Orchard, IL.
Some of her other interests included quilting, something she has done and enjoyed all of her life. Each year along with the ladies of the church they would quilt something special for the annual “Chicken and Dumpling” church bazaar. She loved to cook, especially for her family and friends and was known as “The Dumpling Lady”. In the spring and summer she would garden then can and prepare her garden items to use during the winter months. Though she was always busy and on the go she always had time for her family and close friends and was always interested in their many activities.
She is survived by four sons and three daughters-in-law; Bobbie and Patsy Rendleman of Herrin, IL, Darryl Van and Ruth Rendleman of Pittsburg, IL, Ronald Rendleman of Pittsburg, IL and Terry and Carol Rendleman of Marion, IL; six grandchildren, Heather Lucas and her husband, Darold, Melanie Rendleman, Brian Rendleman, Rhoda Larsen and her husband, Todd, Jennifer Calhoun and her husband, Darrell and Kelly Landry and her husband, Matthew, seventeen step grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, seventeen step great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Vickie Becker and her husband, Jim of Jackson, MO; two sisters and brother-in-law, Phyllis Lamb of Westland, MI and Rose and Norman Keller of Northridge, CA; brother-in-law, Jim Lamb of Dearborn, MI; other extended family, Maretta and Terry Ellison, Debbie and Bill Godbey, Jeff and Margaret Morris, Rhoda and Paul Bowles and Kelly and Tom Gooden and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; son, Keith Rendleman; two granddaughters, one who died at birth and one who was stillborn; two sisters, Alberta Lamb and Mary Searcy and two brothers, Arzie and Deneen Crow.
Arrangements for Mildred Rendleman were entrusted to the Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court Street, of Marion, IL.
A time of visitation for family and friends was from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 26th, at the funeral home.
During the time of visitation a “Reflection of Life” DVD Memorial Tribute featuring special people, places and events of Mildred’s life was presented to the family and friends.
The funeral service was at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 27, 2010, at Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home with Rev. Cecil Atchison presiding. Comments of memory were made by two of Mildred’s sons, Bobbie and Terry Rendleman.
Special recorded vocal selections presented during the service were “Your Race Is Over” by Jamie Sepulvado, “Save a Place for Me” by Matthew West and “Roses Will Bloom Again” by Jeff and Sherri Easter. Another special musical selection presented was “It Is Well With My Soul” by Sandy Babington with pianist, Sandy Absher accompanying.
Interment followed next to her husband in Busby Cemetery near Goreville, IL.
Pallbearers were Bobbie Rendleman, Terry Rendleman, Darryl Van Rendleman, Ronald Rendleman, Brian Rendleman and Michael Rendleman.
Following the committal service at the cemetery the family and friends gathered at Crab Orchard United Methodist Church for a meal and continued time of fellowship.
For those who preferred memorial contributions were made to “Hospice of Southern Illinois”. Memorial contribution envelopes were available at the funeral home or were mailed in care of Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, P.O. Box 370, Marion, IL 62959.
