Betty H. Boling, age 87, a resident of Marion, IL since 1988, and former resident of Pinckneyville, IL, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, at 5:08 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2019, at her home. She was born on Tuesday, August 30, 1932, in Greenwood, SC, the daughter of John Henry and Marie (Hughes) Harbin. Betty grew up and attended school in Liberty, SC, and was a graduate of Liberty High School Class of 1950. She continued with her education at Furman University in Greenville, SC, where she received her Bachelor’s degree and then attended Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, TX, where she received her Master’s degree in Religious Education. She was united in marriage to Charles Walker Boling on Sunday, August 31, 1952, in Greenville, SC, and together they shared over 67 years of marriage. Her working career was as a teacher in the Easley, SC, where she taught elementary and high school, and in Pinckneyville, IL, where she taught in elementary schools for many years. After moving to Marion, she served as a substitute teacher in local schools for over 20 years. Betty was an active member of Second Baptist Church of Marion, serving many years as teacher of the Achievers Sunday School Class. She enjoyed reading, cooking and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan. Betty loved life and enjoyed being with people. Her family was a very important part of her life, and she loved sharing in all of their many activities. Family and friends will cherish the special memories and the Christian example she lived throughout her life. She is survived by her husband, Charles W. Boling of Marion; three daughters; Anne Bishop (Barry) of Easley, SC, Deb Herbst (Dan) of Pinckneyville, IL and Charla Morrow (B.J. Coakley) of Marion; four grandchildren, Rebecca Wright (Claude) of Anna, IL, Nick Bishop of Odenton, MD, Gabe Herbst (Jenna) of Marion and Kaybree Morrow of Marion; two great grandchildren, Lydia and August Wright both of Anna, IL; sister-in-law, Ellen Harbin of Lavonia, GA, several nieces, one nephew, other extended family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Zack Bishop and brother, Harold Harbin. Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court St., Marion. The visitation will be from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17, 2019, at Second Baptist Church, located at 308 South Russell Street, Marion, IL. Following the time of visitation, the funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. with Dr. Bob Wagner and Rev. John Howard presiding. The graveside committal service will follow the next day at 11:30 a.m. in Mueller Hill Cemetery near Pinckneyville, IL. Those wishing to attend the committal service should gather at the cemetery prior to 11:30 a.m. For those who prefer, memorial contributions may be made to the “Illinois Baptist Children’s Home” and mailed in care of Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N.
