Betty Ruth Storme Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Betty Ruth Storme, age 93, of Marion, passed away at 5:10 a.m. on August 23, 2015, at her home. She was born in Marion, IL on June 10, 1922, to Albert and Maggie Jones. She attended Marion City Schools and graduated from Marion Township High School in 1940. She worked as a secretary in the Williamson County Public Assistance Office upon graduation. Betty married Albert Clifton “Cliff” Storme in Jackson, MO on June 21, 1941, and they were the proud parents of two daughters, Vicki Storme Cannady and Carol Storme Tyner. Upon Cliff’s return from serving our country in WWII in 1946, Betty devoted her life to being a wonderful daughter, wife, mother and grandmother while also serving in the community. Betty was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for more than 50 years where she served on the church board as a deacon and was very active in the Christian Women’s Fellowship before the loss of her vision. She was also a member and Past President of the KN club, life member of the hospital auxiliary, a long-time member of the Williamson County Republican Women’s Club and was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Club of Marion. Betty was a generous supporter of many charities serving Native American children, animals, veterans, health organizations, etc. She was an avid sports fan and especially enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs, the SIU Salukis and Marion Wildcats. Betty is survived by her daughter, Carol Tyner of Marion; granddaughter, Tammy (Eddie) Holland of Goreville, IL; granddaughter Tricia (Chad) Bailey of Goreville, IL; grandson, Michael (Amy) Cannady of Grand Haven, MI; granddaughter, Marcia Cannady of Hudson, FL, and eight great-grandchildren: Paige, Ryan and Sarah Holland of Goreville; Jamie, Dylan and Katelyn Bailey of Goreville; and Hallie and Tatum Cannady of Grand Haven, MI; her great-great-grand-dog, Roxy, and Jamie’s special friend, Braden Drake. Preceding Betty in death were her parents, Albert and Maggie (Nichelson) Jones; beloved husband, A. C. “Cliff” Storme; daughter, Vicki Cannady; foster brother, Kenny Williams and son-in-law, Bruce Tyner. Funeral arrangements for Betty Ruth Storme were entrusted to the Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home of 900 North Court Street in Marion. Visitation for family and friends was from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29th at the funeral home. During the time of visitation a “Reflection of Life” DVD Memorial Tribute featuring special people, places and events of Betty’s life was presented to the family and friends. The funeral service was at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 29, 2015, at the Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Rucker presiding. Comments of memory were presented by Betty’s granddaughter, Tricia Bailey. The prelude and postlude musical selections were presented by pianist, Sharon Wilson. Special recorded vocal musical selections presented during the service were “Jesus Is the Sweetest Name I Know” and “It Is No Secret, What God Can Do” both by Jimmy Swaggart. Interment followed next to her husband in Rose Hill Cemetery in Marion, IL. Pallbearers were Mike Cannady, Dylan Bailey, Chad Bailey, Ryan Holland, Eddie Holland, Nick Kelley, Noah Ward and Walter Ward. Following the committal service the family and friends gathered at First Christian Church- Disciples of Christ for a meal and continued time of fellowship and support. For those who preferred memorial donations were made to either the “Native American Children’s Fund” or “First Christian Church Memorial Fund” and mailed in care of Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, P.O.
