Betty Kathryn Williams Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Betty K. Williams, age 79, of rural Johnston City, IL, passed away peacefully at 3:54 p.m. on Friday, December 19, 2014, at the home of a friend in Mission, TX. She was born at home on Thursday, January 31, 1935, in the small town of Tulu, near Marion, KY the daughter of Jess and Lamar (Orendoff) Curry. Betty was first united in marriage to Clifford “Tip” Winkleman in Williamson County, IL in September of 1954 and together they shared twenty-one years of marriage until his death in 1984. To this union they were blessed with two children, Nancy and Jason. Betty was later united in marriage to JD “Jake” Williams on Friday, October 29, 1976, in Carmi, IL and together they shared nearly thirty-two years of marriage until his death on Friday, July 18, 2008. Betty attended upholstery school at Southern Illinois University Vocational Technical Institute west of Marion, IL. She owned and operated Betty’s Upholstery, operating from her home for several years and later Heartland Upholstery in Marion and Herrin, IL until her retirement. After retirement Betty and JD traveled to many areas of the country. During the winter they would travel to McAllen, TX, living there during the winter months and returning to this area in the spring. Betty attended church at Lamaster Trinity Pentecostal Church of Marion, IL. In her spare time she enjoyed going to garage sales, doll collecting and knitting. Betty loved the many times her family and friends would gather together for meals and visiting. Though she was always busy every day, the most important part of her life was her family, especially her children and grandchildren, always keeping up with the many events they all were involved with. The memories that have been created will always be cherished by those now left behind. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Spann of Mission, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Tina Winkleman of Johnston City, IL; three grandchildren, Anthony Winkleman of Marion, IL and Justin and Katelyn Winkleman both of Johnston City, IL; stepdaughter, Debra Johnson, who she loved as her own, and her husband, Rodger of Buncombe, IL; stepson and daughter-in-law, Joey Dale Williams and his wife, Rayna of Chester, IL; five step-grandchildren, Robert Isaac Evetts, Cedric Issac Williams, Joey Dale Williams, Jr., Trevor Tobias Williams and Sarah Williams; three step-great grandchildren; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Sue Croft of Paducah, KY, Lois and Doyle Belts of KY and Vivian Jennings of Herrin, IL; brother-in-law, Robert Roberts of Marion, KY; close friend of sixty years, Lucy Sprague of Marion, IL; special friend, Virgil Tanner of Mission, TX, other extended family members and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, two sisters, Madeline “Dude” Jones and Katheryn “Cappy” Roberts; three brothers, Jess, Bill and Bud Curry; step grandson, David Allen Webb on January, 5, 2003 and son-in-law, Curt Spann on February 17, 2014. Arrangements for Betty K. Williams were entrusted to the Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court Street, of Marion, IL. The time of visitation for family and friends was from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2014, at Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home. During the time of visitation a “Reflection of Life” DVD Memorial Tribute featuring special people, places and events of Betty’s life was presented to the family and friends. Following the time of visitation the funeral service was at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Cecil Clendenin and Rev. Chris Clendenin presiding. Prelude and postlude musical selections were presented by Pianist, Rhoda Clendenin. Special vocal musical selections presented during the service were “I Need No Mansion Here Below” by Bethany McLane, Lea Ann Clendenin and Rhoda Clendenin accompanied by Rhoda on piano, “One More Valley, One More Hill” by Cecil Clendenin and Becky Clendenin accompanied by Becky on piano and “Victory in Jesus” as a congregational hymn led by Becky Clendenin and accompanied by Rhoda on the piano. At the Gravesite “On the Wings of a Snow White Dove” was presented by Rhoda Clendenin and accompanied by Chris Clendenin on the guitar. Interment followed next to her husband “JD” in Maplewood Cemetery of Marion, IL. Pallbearers were Robert Evetts, Michael Brandon, Anthony Winkleman, Justin Winkleman, Roger Johnson and Tony Spowart. Following the committal service at the cemetery the family and friends gathered at the Lamaster Trinity Pentecostal Church for a meal and continued time of fellowship and support. For those who preferred memorial contributions were made to either “Lamaster Trinity Pentecostal Church” or “Hospice Compassionate Care” of Mission, TX and mailed in care of Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, P.O.
