David Harold Moake

January 29, 1950 - July 18, 2020

David, H. Moake, age 70, of Marion, IL, passed away peacefully at 1:13 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2020, at his home. He was born on Sunday, January 29, 1950, in Herrin, IL, the son Ray Moake, Jr. and Virginia Marie (Hughes) Moake. David attended school in Marion, and was a graduate of Marion High School Class of 1968. He continued his education by attending at John A. Logan College of Carterville, IL where he received his Associate Degree. He then went on and attended at Southern Illinois University of Carbondale, IL, and received a Bachelor’s Degree. David answered the call of this nation by enlisting into the United States Air Force. He completed his basic training but due to health reasons could not continue on and was honorably discharged. He had a diverse working career throughout his lifetime. He first began working in construction and later as a miner for the Old Ben Coal Company. He also worked as manager for TSC Farm Equipment Store of Mayfield, KY and as manager for Rural King of Marion, and later as assistant manager for Lowes of Carbondale, IL. Later in his life, he always wanted to see the country and he became an Over the Road Truck Driver for Snyder Trucking until his health forced him to retire. He was a life time member of the First Methodist Church of Marion, IL. When he was younger he was very active in the Jaycees, Scouting and the Civil Air Patrol where he learned to fly and received his pilot license. He played football in high school and baseball. David enjoyed sitting outside doing what he called “Porch Time”. He also traveled and enjoyed spending time in Florida. He is survived by the love of his life and partner, Gayla Foster and her daughter, Ashleigh and (Mike); PaPa’s pride and joy grandson, Wade, Glenda Russell and family, Clark “Butch” (Debbie) Short; niece, Loretta (Marty) Fairless and family; cousin, Sherry (Kevin) Ramsey and their children, Benji (Beth) Ramsey and Mikki (Nigel) Phelps and their daughter, Fiona; cousin, Tom (Kim) McAnelly and their children, Aaron (Anna) McAnelly and their daughter, Sophia and Michael (Addison) McAnelly, other extended family and many friends. He was preceded in death his parents. Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court St., Marion. DUE TO HEALTH CONCERNS RELATED TO THE COVID-19 VIRUS AND BY THE SIGNING OF EXECUTIVE ORDER BY THE ILLINOIS GOVERNOR, the memorial service will be held at a later date.
