Flora Mae Fowler

Flora M. Fowler, age 95, of Marion, IL, passed away peacefully at 4:10 a.m. on Palm Sunday, April 5, 2020, in the Helia Healthcare Center of Energy, IL. She was born on Friday, October 24, 1924, at home of rural Marion in Williamson County, IL, the daughter of Edgar J. and Esta Mae (Cash) Walker. She was united in marriage to John B. Fowler on Tuesday, July 9, 1940, in Marion and together they shared nearly 48 years until his death on Father’s Day Sunday, June 19, 1988. Flora’s served many customers at Bracy and Kroger food stores of Marion as a clerk for over 30 years. She was a longtime member of the Second Baptist Church of Marion. Her artistic talent was lovingly displayed in beautiful hand-crafted quilts that will continue to bring joy for generations. She will also be remembered for wonderful meals prepared for family and friends to include fried chicken, potato salad, and fruit cocktail cake. Her pantry was always stocked with the lost art of canned vegetables that brought a bit of warmth to winter days. She enjoyed all types of flowers and watching birds. She loved her family dearly and enjoyed the many times they were all together. The many memories that have been created will now be cherished by those she leaves behind. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dena and Rev. Jerry D. Parmley of Fort Worth, TX; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gordon J. and Linda Fowler of Marion, IL and Gary E. and Susan Fowler of Marion, IL; seven grandchildren, Kristie Alexander and husband, Earl of Ft. Worth, TX, Stephanie Givens and husband, Clayton of St. Louis, MO, Dereck Parmley and wife, Alesia of Sandoval, IL, Amanda Fowler of Marion, IL, Jessica Corzine and husband, Doug of Marion, IL, Karon Fowler of Chicago, IL and Kristen Fowler of Knoxville, TN; ten great grandchildren, Cassie Corzine of Marion, IL, Cameran Corzine of Marion, IL, Ryan Alexander of Haslet, TX, Seth Alexander of Seattle, WA, Aaron Alexander of Seattle, WA, Ashley Kracht of Sandoval, IL, Kadence Parmley of Sandoval, IL, Kole Schaedler of Belleville, IL, Sierra Schaedler of Sandoval, IL and Dasani Schaedler of Sandoval, IL; four great-great grandchildren, Landon, Cassidy, Owen and Myles. She is also survived by devoted nephew, Larry Fisher of Marion, IL and niece, Linda Roberts and husband, Larry of Marion, IL and many extended family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; sister, Marie Fisher and brother, Lee Roy Walker. Special thanks to Dr. Gladstone Tucker for his expertise and compassion and sincere appreciation to the staff of Helia Healthcare of Energy that cared for her as their own and the residents who became good friends. Arrangements were entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court St., Marion. DUE TO HEALTH CONCERNS RELATED TO THE COVID-19 VIRUS AND BY THE SIGNING OF EXECUTIVE ORDER BY THE ILLINOIS GOVERNOR, there was not any visitation or funeral services. Interment followed next to her husband in Rose Hill Cemetery of Marion, IL. Condolences and memories were shared on the virtual registry below.
