Frank Vincent Supergan Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Frank V. Supergan, age 90, of rural Carbondale, IL, passed away peacefully with his family near, at 1:20 a.m. on Wednesday, February 23, 2022, at his home. He was born on December 23, 1931, in Chicago, IL, the son of John and Bernice (Wierzba) Supergan. Frank attended school at St. Francis DeSales Catholic School of Chicago, IL and was a graduate of the Class of 1949. He answered the call of this nation in August of 1952, by serving in the United States Army during the time of the Korean War, being station in Germany serving as an interpreter in intelligence. After his period of faithful service, he was honorably discharged in July of 1954, with the rank of Corporal. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Ann Sarkady on October 1, 1955, in St. Columba Catholic Church of Chicago, IL, and together they have shared nearly 67 years of marriage. His working career was with the Chicago Fire Department for 30 years and at the time of his retirement he was Captain of Engine 74. Frank believed in always keeping busy and had a strong work ethic and on his off-duty days at the fire department, he owned and operated a roofing company called Supergan Roofing. After his retirement from the Chicago Fire Department, he moved to Southern Illinois in 1986. He was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church of Herrin, IL, and also a 3rd Degree Knight of the Knights of Columbus-No. 6210 Marion Council, Marion, IL. He loved being in the outdoors and enjoyed gardening, always having a large garden with not a weed in it, and enjoyed giving the fruits of the garden away to his many friends. He enjoyed exercising at least 3 times a week at John A. Logan College. He was an avid waterfowler and strong supporter of Ducks Unlimited being a Lifetime Sponsor and was actively involved in several or the local area DU Chapters. He enjoyed fishing with his wife, Marjorie and feeding and watching the birds, especially hummingbirds out the back of his home, and was an avid trapper often harvesting thousands of pelts in a season. In his youth he was an excellent baseball player, playing the position as catcher, and played baseball on the military team while serving in the Army. Even in his older years he continued to be a die-hard fan of baseball, and lifetime fan of the Chicago Cubs. He loved his large family and enjoyed the many times they all shared together. He was always interested in hearing about all of their many different activities in their lives. He will be remembered by all for being a devoted husband and loving father. The many memories created will now be cherished by those he leaves behind. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie (Sarkady) Supergan; children, Nancy Houston and husband Ken, Rita Petway and husband, Dave, Michael Supergan and wife, Patricia, Mary Hern and husband, James, Joseph Supergan and wife, Donna, Barbara Supergan, John Supergan and wife, Michelle and David Supergan and wife, Gayle, fifteen grandchildren, six great grandchildren; sister, Sophie Brauer; daughter-in-law, Peg Supergan, a large host of other extended family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Frank Supergan; four sisters, Stephanie Duszynski, Helen Funk, Rose Kosteba and Betty Pienkowski; two brothers, Joe and John Supergan and four other siblings who passed way as infants. Arrangements are entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street, Marion, IL. The visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 27, 2022, at the funeral home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, February 28, 2022, at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, located at 316 West Monroe Street, in Herrin, IL, with Father Mark Reyling presiding. Those wishing to attend the service should gather at the church prior to 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow in San Carlo Catholic Cemetery of Herrin, IL. For those who prefer, memorial contributions be made to “Our Lady of Mount Carmel School Fund.” Memorial contributions may be mailed in care of Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N.
