James R. Patrick

December 29, 1939 - June 22, 2015

Jim Patrick, age 75, of rural Marion, IL passed away peacefully with his loved ones by his side at 7:33 p.m. on Monday, June 22, 2015, in Heartland Regional Medical Center of Marion. He was born in Carterville, IL on Friday, December 29, 1939, the son of John and Katherine (Pritchett) Patrick. Jim owned and operated Jim Patrick Excavating Company of Marion for 35 years and was known as the “Best Backhoe Man in Southern Illinois.” He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Goreville, IL and the Marion Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. No. 800. Jim was a prankster who loved aggravating those close to him, especially his good friend Darryll Krumrey. His passion was catching crappie, helping others and making people laugh. He also enjoyed volunteering his time and talent at The Journey Church of Marion. He is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Darlene and Roger Watkins of Masontown, WV and Terra Lynn Bruggeman of Panama City FL; son and daughter-in-law, Darrin and Amie Patrick of St Louis, MO; six grandchildren Alyssa (Bruggeman) Rowles and her husband Eric and Luke Bruggeman all of Indianapolis, IN and Glory, Grace, Drew and Delainey Patrick all of St. Louis, MO. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Chelsea Morgan-Bruggeman and the love of his life, Karen. The memorial service in celebration of Jim's life will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2015, at The Journey Church, located at 11580 Illinois Route 37 North, Marion, IL with Jim’s son Dr. Darrin Patrick presiding. Following the memorial service, lunch will be provided at the church. Those wishing to attend the memorial service should gather at the church prior to 11:00 a.m. For those who prefer, memorial contributions in memory of Jim, may be made to “The Journey Church Building Fund” and mailed in care of The Journey Church, 11580 Illinois Route 37 North, Marion, IL 62959. Arrangements for Jim Patrick have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court St., Marion, IL. For additional information please contact the funeral home by calling 618-993-2131.
