Karen Allene Springer Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Karen Allene Springer, age 69, of Marion, IL, passed away at 1:47 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, 2022, in Herrin Hospital of Herrin, IL. She was born on April 7, 1953, in Cherry Point, NC, the daughter of Allen B. and Marilyn Jo (Nicholson) Springer. She was a graduate of Marion High School Class of 1971. After graduation she worked at various jobs in the area. In the 1980’s she decided to resume her education and attended at Southern Illinois University of Carbondale, IL, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education. She later enrolled at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary of Fort Worth, TX where she received her Master’s Degree of Divinity. After graduation, the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention sent her to France for 1 year to lean French. She then served as a missionary for 2 years to Burkina Faso, a country located in West Africa. After returning to Marion, she began substitute teaching and eventually teaching at several of the area Christian Schools until her health declined. She was a member of Second Baptist Church of Marion. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening and working with her flowers when she was younger. She also enjoyed drawing, sketching, painting and doing cross stitching. She loved her family and enjoyed the many times they gathered together and always was interested in hearing about all the activities going on in their lives, especially of her grandchildren. She is survived by her son, Tim A. Springer currently serving in the United States Navy as a Chaplain and his wife, Kathy; four grandchildren, Thaddaeus J. Springer, Ethan T. Springer, Seth G. Springer and Tyndall A. Springer all of San Diego, CA; mother, Marilyn J. Springer of Marion, IL; two nephews, Caleb Pennock and wife, Shawna of Carterville, IL and Elijah Pennock and wife, Hayley of Marion, IL, other extended family and many friends. She was preceded in death by her father and sister and brother-in-law, Kim and Alain E. Pennock Arrangements are entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street, Marion, IL. There will not be any public service accorded at this time. The family has requested for those who prefer, memorial contributions be made to “International Mission Board.” Memorial contributions may be mailed in care of Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N.
