Larry Joe Clendenin Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Larry J. Clendenin, age 84, of Marion, IL, passed away at 12:11 a.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2022, in Barnes-Jewish Hospital of St. Louis, MO. He was born in Marion, IL, on October 16, 1937, the son of Math and Pearl (Sutton) Clendenin. He graduated from Marion High School and attended Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. Larry answered the call of this nation by serving in the United States Army, stationed in Germany, from 1960-1962, and after his period of faithful service was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage to Carrol Jean Grant on June 22, 1963, at the Free Will Baptist Church in Johnston City, IL and together they shared over 52 years of marriage until her death on December 17, 2015. Larry’s working career was with Southern Illinois Power Cooperative of the Lake of Egypt for 33 years until he retired. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church of Marion, IL. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing golf and spending time with his family. He enjoyed listening to them talk about all of the activities going on in their lives, especially those of his grandchildren. The memories created will now be cherished by those he leaves behind. He is survived by his daughter, Tina Renee Rose and her husband, Eric of Aurora, IL; two granddaughters, Faith Rebecca Rose and Taylor Grace Rose both of Aurora, IL; and grandson, Austin William Rose of Aurora, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and his sisters, Muriel McCullough and Charlene Murphy. Arrangements were entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street, Marion, IL. The visitation was from 10 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Tuesday, March 22, 2022, at the funeral home. Following the time of visitation, the funeral service was at 12:00 noon with Pastor Danny Ward presiding. Special musical selections presented during the service were “I Can Only Imagine” by Mercy Me, “He Touched Me” by The Gaithers and “Amazing Grace” by Carrie Underwood. Interment followed next to his wife, Carrol in Rose Hill Cemetery of Marion, IL. Pallbearers were Eric Rose, Austin Rose, Philip Harms, and Ralph Grant. Following the committal service at the cemetery the family and friends gathered at Second Baptist Church of Marion, IL, for a meal and continued time of fellowship and support. The family requested for those who preferred, memorial contributions be made to “The Alzheimer’s Association.” Memorial contributions were mailed in care of Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N.
