Margaret Baysinger

March 3, 1922 - June 4, 2012

Margaret Baysinger, age 90, of Marion, IL, formerly of Benton, IL, passed away peacefully at 11:59 p.m. on Monday, June 4, 2012, at the home of Don & Jean Ness of the Lake of Egypt. She was born on Friday, March 3, 1922, in Franklin County, IL, near Benton, the daughter of Edward and Delsie (Melvin) Owens. Margaret was united in marriage to Carl Baysinger in June of 1949, at the East Benton Baptist Church of Benton, IL and together they shared nearly 40 years of marriage until his death came on November 9, 1988. Margaret worked during WW II at a factory in Benton, IL making glow lights for the navy. After her marriage she moved to Marion, IL and worked for the Woolworth Store on the square for 25 years. She received the most courteous clerk award from the Marion Chamber of Commerce in 1959. After the Woolworth’s store closed, she began working at the Marion High School as a cook and remained in that position for 12 years until her retirement in 1987. Margaret began attending church at the First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ of Marion in 1949, and later joined the church in the 1973. She has been a faithful member and served as a deacon for several years. She was awarded the status deacon emeritus in 2007. Margaret also has been a long time and active member of the Christian Women’s Fellowship (CWF) organization of the church. Carl and Margaret were members of the Wally Byam Caravan Club International (WBCCI). They were founding members of the Southern Illinois Unit of the WBCCI in 1963. Carl was president of the club in the 3rd year and Margaret served as the historian for many years. In 1988, they received a perfect attendance award, never missing any campout for 25 consecutive years. They were the only couple to ever receive this award. Margaret is survived by her sister, Bluebell Tate of Benton, IL and a host of nieces and nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Nadine and Helen and four brothers, Woodrow, Felix, Frank, and Edward William. Arrangements for Margaret Baysinger were entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court Street, of Marion, IL. A time of visitation for family and friends was on Tuesday, June 12th, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church-Disciples of Christ, located at 310 N. Market Street, Marion, IL. Following the time of visitation the funeral service was at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. William Rucker presiding. Interment followed next to her husband, Carl in Rose Hill Cemetery of Marion, IL. For those who preferred, memorial contributions were made to “CWF” of the church. Memorial contribution envelopes were available at the church and the funeral home or mailed in care of Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, P.O. Box 370, Marion, IL 62959.
