Mary (Gibbons) Norris Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Mary (Gibbons) Norris, age 100, of Marion, IL, passed away peacefully with her family by her side at 9:41 a.m. on Thursday July 21, 2022, in her great-great nephew’s home in McLeansboro, IL. She was born in Crab Orchard, IL, the daughter of James Gibbons and Mary (Scroggins) Gibbons. She was united in marriage to John A. Norris in 1939. They shared many years of marriage together before he passed away in 1994. Mary was a homemaker after her marriage, managing her home and seeing to the needs of her husband, John. As the years went by, she began working outside of the home at the Holiday Inn, in Marion, in housekeeping until she retired in 1986. In her spare time, she enjoyed watching Country Music Television, Home Shopping Network, gardening outside, reading, scrapbooking, decorating, and cooking and baking at home for her family. Mary was very fashionable and loved to socialize. She is survived by her great nephew, US Army Colonel Robert C. Stelle and companion, Julie Borchers both of Alexandria, VA; four great niece’s, Sheila Stelle of Broughton, IL, Dr. Ginger Stelle of Nicholasville, KY, Lisa Stafford of Iuka, MS, and Labreeska Stafford of Iuka, MS; six great-great nephews, Michael Key and wife, Naomi of Pittsburg, IL, Luke Redman of McLeansboro, IL, Keith Redman of McLeansboro, IL, , Joshua Stelle and companion, Jade of McLeansboro, IL, Aaron Teal of Iuka, MS, and David Tiernan of Iuka, MS; five great-great nieces, Brittany Albright of Pittsburg, IL, Haley Redman of Valier, IL, April Rametta of KY, Amber Ramette of Herrin, IL, and Abby Tiernan of Iuka, MS; along with many other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, nine brothers, six sisters; and two nieces, Carolyn Montgomery and Connie Key. Arrangements are entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street, Marion, IL. The graveside committal service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 28, 2022, at Rose Hill Cemetery of Marion, IL, with Rev. Ivan Ryan presiding. Those wishing to attend the service should gather at the cemetery prior to 11:00 a.m. The family has requested for those who prefer, memorial contributions be made to “St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital” or “Feed the Children”.
