Orval G. Bundren, age 88, of Crab Orchard, IL, passed away peacefully at 9:15 a.m., on Thursday, May 9, 2013, at Carrier Mills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of Carrier Mills, IL. He was born in rural Williamson County, IL, near the Palzo community, on Friday, April 17, 1925, the son of Roscoe and Ollie (Rodgers) Bundren. Orval was united in marriage to Mary Ada Boyd on Saturday, March 4, 1944, in the Arnold View community of rural Creal Springs, and together shared over sixty-two years of marriage until her death on Saturday, February 3, 2007. His working career was as a coal miner and also for many years operated a lawn mower repair business at his home in Crab Orchard. He was a member of the Mt. Moriah General Baptist Church of Creal Springs and recently had been attending the Arnold View Free Will Baptist Church near Creal Springs. He also was a member of the United Mine Workers of America. In his spare time he enjoyed gardening and was known for his sweet potatoes. He also liked to fish with his family. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him and the memories will now be cherished by those he leaves behind. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Jerry Upchurch of Marion, IL and Robin and David McKenzie of Marion, IL; two sons and daughters-in-law, Gary and Sharon Bundren of Marion, IL and Bob and Pamela Bundren of Marion, IL; eight grandchildren, Brad Segers and wife, Amanda, Shelly Cain and husband, Brent, Mike Bundren and wife, Melissa, Jeff Bundren and wife, Patty, Bobby Bundren and wife, Brooke, Andy Bundren and wife, Marcy, Brian Bundren and wife Charity and Aubrey McKenzie; six step grandchildren, Shalani Gates and husband, Andy, Paula Stanley and husband, Mark, Angie Dowdy and husband, Jesse, Suzanna Lee and husband, Eric, Benjamin Boulton and wife, Shelley and Natalie Hooker and husband, Dennis; sixteen great-grandchildren, Brocton Bundren, Cole Bundren, Jordan Bundren, Lexie Bundren, Kaylee Barnes, Beau Barnes, Zane Cain, A. J. Segers, Ava Segers, Madison Bundren, Brady Bundren, Mikayla Bundren, Miranda Bundren, Melaina Bundren, Caleb Bundren and Chloe Bundren; six step-grandchildren; one step great-great grandson; sister, Edith Tanner of Marion, IL; special friend and neighbor, Charles Graves of Crab Orchard, IL, a host of nieces, nephews, other extended family members and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; infant twin daughter, Robbie Verlaine Bundren; two sisters, Myrtle Edwards and Helen Rector and three brothers, Lloyd and Ernest Bundren and his twin brother, Norval Bundren. The family would like thank the staff of the Carrier Mills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their kindness and compassionate care. Arrangements for Orval G. Bundren were entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court St., Marion, IL. The visitation for the family and friends was from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Monday, May 13, 2013, at the funeral home. During the time of visitation a “Reflection of Life” DVD Memorial Tribute featuring special people, places and events of Orval’s life was presented to the family and friends. Following the time of visitation the funeral service was at 1:00 p.m., with Rev. Ivan Ryan presiding. Comments of memory were presented by his daughter, Robin MeKenzie and son, Bob Bundren. The prelude and postlude musical selections were recorded piano selections. Special recorded vocal musical selections presented during the service were “I Believe” by Diamond Rio and “Go Rest High on That Mountain” by Vince Gill. Interment followed next to his wife in Simmons Cemetery east of Creal Springs, IL. Honorary pallbearers were Shelly Cain and Aubrey McKenzie. Active pallbearers were Brad Segers, Jeff Bundren, Mike Bundren, Andy Bundren, Bobby Bundren and Brian Bundren. After the committal service at the cemetery the family and friends gathered at Arnold View Baptist Church, located north of Creal Springs, for a meal and continued time of fellowship and support. For those who preferred, memorial contributions were made to either “The Alzheimer’s Association” or “The St. Louis Shriner’s Hospital for Children”. Memorial contribution envelopes were available at the funeral home or were mailed in care of Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, P.O. Box 370, Marion, IL, 62959.
