Ronald Earl "Ron" Doerge

March 6, 1928 - July 21, 2017

Ronald Earl “Ron” Doerge passed away at 8:30 a.m. Friday, July 21, 2017, in the Veteran’s Community Living Center in Marion. He was born on Tuesday, March 6, 1928 in Chester, Illinois, the son of Harvey and Ruth (Dial) Doerge. He is survived by his wife, Rosanna Poole of Marion; three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Jim Shane of Harrisburg, IL, Suzanne Doerge and husband, Joe Gunn of Ottawa, Canada and Betsy and Mike DeVillez of Harrisburg; four sons, Bill and Diane Doerge of Elmhurst, IL, Michal “Mike” and Julie Doerge of Ozark, IL, John Doerge of Nashville, TN and Richard Doerge of Kissimmee, FL;grandchildren Sam Alderfer, Reagan Brown, Nikki Manternach, Chelsea DeVillez, Nigel Doerge, Katy Dixon, Haley DeVillez, Jessi Doerge, Alex Cook, Daniela Gunn-Doerge, Ben Gunn-Doerge and Zach DeVillez and great grandchildren Jay Alderfer, Harrison Manternach, Hayden Bigler, Jayme Brown, Elsa Alderfer, Hailey Manternach, Curtis Manternach, Juniper Doerge and Riley Dixon. He is also survived by his niece Pam Knight of Louisville, KY and cousin, Cynthia Lawder of Chester, IL. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Patty Beall of Louisville, Kentucky. Ron formerly of Harrisburg, IL, operated Ronnie’s Studio from 1952 - 1986 and National Learning Systems from 1978 - 2012. He was active in the Kiwanis Club of Harrisburg, Egyptian Boy Scouts of America, Illinois Photographers Association, National Audio Visual Association and the Lake of Egypt Property Owners Association. He is the author of the Christian book Three Little Words – Are you Saved? He completed mission trips in Russia and Nicaragua. He traveled to Nicaragua three times to help establish and operate a pastor training program. He was a member of the Bethlehem Gospel Mission Church. He helped establish the Harrisburg Kiwanis Summer Baseball program which continued from 1956 to 1996 and Share Your Blessing which provided Chirstmas gifts for local children for over 20 years. Served as Trustee on the Southeastern Illinois College Board of Trustees, as District Chair of Illinois Circle K Clubs, and as chair of the Professional Development Institute. Arrangements for Ronald Earl Doerge have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court St., Marion, IL. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 29, at Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court St., Marion, with Jimmy Jackson officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service starting at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Following the time of visitation the memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Jimmy Jackson presiding. Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by members of Heyde-Pillow V.F.W. Post No. 1301, American Legion Post No. 147 both of Marion and the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Burial Detail of Marion. For those who prefer, memorials may be made to “Marion Medical Mission” and mailed to 1412 Shawnee Drive or in care of Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court Street, Marion, IL 62959.
