Shannon Ross Richey, age 48, of Crab Orchard, IL, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2019, in Barnes-Jewish Hospital of St. Louis, MO. He was born on Saturday, June 5, 1971, in Marion, IL, the son of Danny Ross and Peggy R. (Edds) Richey. Shannon attended school in Crab Orchard, IL and was a graduate of Crab Orchard High School Class of 1989. His working career was as a District Representative for Modern Woodman of America for many years. Shannon enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was the fishing coach for the Crab Orchard High School, a big supporter of Crab Orchard athletics and the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns softball team. He was a hunting guide with Crazy Feather Outfitters in Mexico with Gerry Glasco. He lived for many years on the gulf on Pine Island in St. James City, FL and was a beloved member of that community where he volunteered as a dock master at the Waterfront Restaurant and Marina. He loved his family especially his nephews and nieces and was always interested in all of their many activities. The many memories that have been created will be cherished by those he leaves behind. He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Peggy R. and Don Richey of Pittsburg, IL; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Dana and Tim Morris of Crab Orchard, IL, Danna and David Palmer of Goreville, IL and Susan and Todd Boatright of Stonefort, IL; stepsister, Dawnita Blumenstock and her husband Keith of Pittsburg, IL; stepbrother, Darwin Richey and his wife Barbara of Pittsburg, IL; niece, Sarah Boatright; six nephews, Josh Boatright and his wife Kristy, Ryan Groves, Jeremy Boatright and his wife Lindsay, Lucas Gladwell, Boone Morris, Presley Morris; two great nieces, one great nephew; aunt, Barbara Simon of Bourbonais, IL; three uncles, Grant Richey of Thompsonville, IL, Ted Edds of Crab Orchard, IL and Gordon Holmes of Creal Springs, IL, other extended family members and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Danny Richey; nephew, Mitchell Gladwell; three aunts, Marjorie Williams, Betty Casey and Judy Holmes and uncle, Donnie Edds. Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court St., Marion. The visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 28th, at the Church of Christ, located at 3101 South Park Avenue, Herrin, IL 62948. Visitation will resume on Monday morning from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 29, 2019, also at the church with Rev. Dr. Brett Beasley and Minister Bill Brandstatter presiding. Interment will follow near his father in Mount Pleasant Shed Cemetery located southeast of Marion. For those who prefer, memorial contributions may be made to “Mount Pleasant Shed Cemetery” and mailed in care of Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court Street, Marion, IL 62959.
