Mary Jane Deaton, age 84, of Marion, IL, passed away peacefully at 2:45 p.m. on Friday, May 16, 2014, in Memorial Hospital of Carbondale, IL. She was born on Thursday, September 21, 1929, in Buckner, IL the daughter of the late George and Annie (Tregoning) Webster. Mary Jane was united in marriage to George Edward Deaton on Monday, October 19, 1952, in Benton, IL and together they have shared nearly sixty-two years of marriage. She was a registered nurse, having graduated in 1951, from Saint John’s Hospital School of Nursing in Springfield, IL. Mary Jane began her working career in nursing with the Veteran’s Administration Hospital in Marion, IL. She later began working for the Franklin-Williamson Bi-County Health Department in Marion, IL and retired as Director of Nurses for the health department. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Vandalia, IL. She also was a member and volunteer of the Heartland Regional Medical Center Auxiliary and the Marion Chapter of the Senior Circle. She is survived by her husband, George Deaton of Marion, IL; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Michael and Debbie Deaton of Christopher, IL, Greg Deaton and Doug and Melinda Deaton all of Marion, IL; her granddaughter who she raised, Chelsea Duty and her husband, Chris of Creal Springs, IL; her other grandchildren, Stephanie Deaton of Chesterfield, MO, Kelly Cameron and husband, Todd of Jacksonville, FL, Douglas B. Deaton of Marion, IL and Jessica Lenon and husband, Chad of Creal Springs, IL, three great-grandchildren, Addisyn Lenon, Katelyn Cameron and Jaxon Lenon; sister, June Webster of Marion, IL; two sisters-in-law, Nadine Webster of Appleton, WI and Jane Webster of Benton, IL, several nieces and nephews, other extended family and many friends. Mary Jane was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Anna Wiley and her husband, G.B.; three brothers, Sidney Webster and wife, Yvonne, George Webster and A. Jack Webster and daughter-in-law, Kitty (Walter) Deaton. Arrangements for Mary Jane Deaton were entrusted to the Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court Street, Marion, IL. The funeral service was private at Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Donelson presiding. The prelude and postlude musical selections were recorded piano selections. Special vocal musical selections presented were “Hero” by Mariah Carey, “Wind Beneath My Wings” by Bette Midler, “Women At The Well” by Julie de Azevedo, “Take My Hand, Precious Lord” by Elvis Presley and “Beyond The Sunset” by George Younce. Interment followed in Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery of Benton, IL. Pallbearers were Michael Deaton, Greg Deaton, Chad Lenon, Doug Deaton, Douglas B. Deaton and Chris Duty. For those who preferred, memorial gifts in memory of Mary Jane Deaton were made to “St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital”. Memorial contribution envelopes were available at the funeral home or were mailed in care of Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, P.O. Box 370, Marion, IL 62959.
